Biography

Duo Lucas-Dekker is a Franco-American flute duo founded in 2022 in Paris. Vincent Lucas, a world renowned solo flutist, principal flutist of the Orchestre de Paris and previously piccolo solo at the Berliner Philharmoniker, joins Louna Dekker Vargas, a Franco-American flutist dedicated to chamber music and daring artistic collaborations — to form a multi-generational, adventurous duo that specializes in classical European and American repertoire, often working with guest pianists as well, such as Aoko Soga, and Vera Hsu.

They enjoy working in a multi-generational and cross-cultural spirit, sharing their love of chamber music and the flute with audiences and students. The duo recorded music videos at Collège Néerlandais in Paris in 2022 and filmed by Cinesthesia Productions. In 2024, the duo was in residency at Cornell University, giving several recitals, premiering faculty works, and giving numerous masterclasses and workshops.

VINCENT LUCAS BIOGRAPHY

Mr. Lucas is Principal flutist of the Orchestre de Paris since 1994 and a world renowned soloist, appearing with major orchestras regularly. He has enjoyed a long orchestral career, previously holding the solo piccolo chair at the Berlin Philharmoniker for six years under Claudia Abbado and beginning his career at l’Orchestre du Capitole de Toulouse.

He has released critically acclaimed solo and chamber music albums with the label Indésens, such as “Les Folies d’Espagne et 12 fantaisies”, “The Art of the French Flute”, and the solo album “Alone”. Lucas teaches masterclasses in numerous music festivals in Asia, Europe and the Americas. He also performs with the Wind Quintet of the Orchestre de Paris, and has been featured on numerous recordings with the ensemble. Lucas is on faculty at the renowned Conservatoire National Supérieure de Musique in Paris and th eParis CRR Conservatory. He is a laureate of the Prague International Radio Competition.

LOUNA DEKKER-VARGAS BIOGRAPHY

Louna Dekker Vargas is a Franco-American flutist. Daughter of Claudia Vargas, a Colombian painter, and Reinier Dekker, a Dutch craftsman, Louna was immersed in an artistic and multicultural universe from an early age.

She is at home in several musical traditions, from chamber music with her various ensembles (Peabody Conservatory YADS Prize winners, guest artists at numerous festivals, including the Sitka Centennial Hall Chamber Music Festival, El Paso Pro Musica festival, Fox Fine Arts Hall, quarter-finalist at the Fischoff International Competition… ). In 2022 and 2023 she was invited as a soloist to the Cité Internationale des Arts, the Grand Amphitéatre de la Sorbonne, the Grand Salon du Collège Néerlandais de la Cité Internationale, and Salle Cortot. Louna has also recently been invited to collaborate with the New Jersey Festival Orchestra and the International Contemporary Ensemble.
